simonmccorry Superb cross genre compilation/sampler from a new collective of artists. Particularly love the experimentalism of LULA.XYZ’s ‘One Step Forward’ & Rebekah Reid’s Postclassical ‘Streams’

about

Introducing our release, Vol. 01: Refuge, a new collaborative project and the first iteration of its kind. The journey began right at the start of 2020 and it's only fitting that this mixtape see the light of day before the year is up.

From harpist Marysia Osu and multi-disciplinary creative Queen Cleopatra's ambient spoken word debut, to scintillating violin melodies from Täpp Collective's Rebekah Reid, all the way through to newcomer George Tatenda's silky vocals and minimal production, Vol. 01: Refuge is as eclectic as it is kaleidoscopic.

The mixtape is also accompanied by an A3-sized digital print produced by visionary illustrator/animator, Wumzum, alongside various other artists in our community. It's a visual representation of our community, our values, our journey - an homage of sorts to the spaces and places that shaped us.

Scrapbook Mixtape came together thanks to our community leaders, And Is Phi and Naima Adams, who saw it necessary to maintain the connection between us and establish a space where we could be free to create, discuss, mold, and transform into whatever our hearts desire.

With this release, we celebrate everyone's artistry, dedication to the project, and the beginning of a new journey - it's been a labour of love.

Let's keep the mothership afloat and moving.
